The latest course from Edinburgh Whisky Academy and only available as a classroom course through course providers, this unique certificate consists of four interactive sections where you can explore all things sensory analysis/experience.
1- Origin of Taste
In the first part, we explore the origins of flavour. Participants will learn where and how flavour development occurs during the production and maturation process of Scotch Whisky.
2.1 Recognizing Smells
2.2 Sensory Analysis
The second part, which builds on the information received in the first part, aims to test each candidate's aroma recognition skills, determine their own sensory criteria and create and develop their personal aroma libraries. Participants will participate in the sensory analysis of five different whiskeys, learn aroma descriptors and learn to evaluate and score a whiskey impartially like a professional whiskey judge.
Participants will be given the EWA Sensory Analysis Certificate course booklet free of charge and will be used as a resource for this course.
3. Seasons, Senses, Taste and Other Elements
This episode takes participants on a sensory safari where they learn about the process of pairing different whiskeys with food, as well as how to classify certain styles of whiskey with seasonal foods and emotions.
4.1 Effect of Temperature
4.2 Blind Tasting
Participants will conduct a blind tasting where they will need to create a taste profile and food pairing recommendation for two sample whiskeys included in the evaluation using the information learned throughout the training.
Candidates who complete these four modules will receive an EWA Sensory Assessment Certificate and a yellow badge.
